Restoration for
your Old or Damaged
Photographs

Restoration of a torn or badly creased photograph is an art in itself and can run into many hours of work. It is not achieved automatically by software as many people might think; it is definately a hands on skill. Most of our work comes from people who have badly damaged photos of loved ones or great grandparents etc and we respect the need to have these renewed.

Restoration work can be carried out by either sending the original photograph to us or emailing your own scan. If you choose to send us the original, we scan it at very high resolution and then work on the image in the computer. When finished, a high quality print is produced using only the finest grade photo paper and inks. We do not use cheap compatible inks or bulk-buy paper. If we feel that your photograph is beyond restoration you will be informed and no charge made.

Take a look below at a perfect example of the kind of work we do on a regular basis.

The customer had a cherished photograph of his grandfather (deceased) and father. He wanted to give his father a present of a framed restored copy of this image for Christmas.

To begin with, the first problem was that the original was only small (3" x 3") so had to be scanned at the highest resolution. Even though it is in black and white, it was scanned as colour because this captures even more detail. The next stage was to increase the contrast to make the blacks even blacker and whites even whiter. The overall image was then sharpened to overcome the fact that originally it was slightly out of focus. The restoration work can now be started and the 'before & after' examples speak for themselves. The second picture shows the completed restoration but the customer finally decided he wanted it cropping so it could be placed in a 6" x 4" frame. It would have been easier if we had known this initially because, as you can see, a lot of restoration work has now been cut out of the finished print. This obviously would have saved time (and money for the customer) so it's important to know how you would like your completed image to appear.
